ELMO
So over the last few weeks we've gotten Kenna into Sesame Street, she absolutely loves it, but what she really loves is her red furry little friend Elmo! We knew she liked Elmo when we took our road trip to Chicago over Labor Day, but we are now learning she's a tad bit obsessed :) Grandpa Mack got her the Elmo Rock N' Roll doll on Thanksgiving and she just loves it as he sings lots of songs, but more importantly "Elmo's World" her absolute favorite...she has several movies now and we swear if she could just watch Elmo and friends all day long, she'd be content!
Last night, Nate witnessed her true obsession :) I was at the gym and he was at home with her getting our dinner ready. Here is the exact post he sent me along with the adorable picture:

Waiting for Santa!
Our Thanksgiving was so nice and relaxing (after the procedure of course) with the time off that Nate and I had! We had a great weekend decorating and getting ready for Christmas. Music started, Elf was playing and Christmas scents were/are flowing through the house :) We decided to get a real tree this year - we did that a lot growing up when I was little and we agreed it would be a fun tradition to start...we even thought about cutting our own when Kenna gets old enough to enjoy it! Grammie also got us the original Elf on the Shelf, Christopher Pop-in-Kins! Nate decided to name him Diego, he's not even sure why :) so although she doesn't understand why he's there each morning and in a different spot, she loves to say, "What's that?!?!" when we point him out to her!
Wrigley also seems to love the new look at the Schlieman household and seems to be waiting for Santa!! This is how we found her last night :) ADORABLE!
We are very excited for Christmas this year and can't wait to wake up in our own home this year on Christmas morning to have our first official Schlieman Family Christmas!

Kenna's Procedure
We had Mackenna's much anticipated procedure last Wednesday the 23rd of Nov. We were pretty nervous going in, as we really had no clear idea of what truly was going to happen behind those doors. We got her up and fed before 6:30am (in case she did indeed need sedation) and we were on our way at 8am. When we arrived, Kenna got all checked in and was given her medical band for her wrist. Then it was just sit and wait in anticipation...Kenna was thoroughly enjoying the waiting area, lots of toys and books to play with!
Then it was time to head back and get prepped. Because I had asked for sedation to be readily available, we had to go into a room to be asked a bunch of questions about Mackenna to make sure she was a good candidate for the Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) - thankfully she was, so that made us feel a bit better. She got her purple 'princess gown' and seemed to really enjoy how pretty she looked. Her little personality was shining through like always! At this point, we were all still pretty happy and in good spirits.
Then it was time for the inevitable! We headed to the radiology room and this is where we spent the next hour or so...
To begin, we all had to where the lead aprons, so we got those on and they began to "tie her down" :( They wrapped her legs with an ace bandage around a board so she could not kick and squirm...or at least that was the thought, but we have such a fighter, that through the tears and screams, she managed to squirm so much, that board really didn't do much. On the first attempt, yes there was more than 1, it was unsuccessul. The radiologist was working to get the tube, about the size of a cooked piece of spaghetti, inside her bottom and after about 25 minutes, he told us he was unsuccessful - seriously she is a fighter. He suggested we let her calm down and then try again to where we stepped in as parents and said, "No, we'll let her calm down and also use sedation for Round 2!" we were not about to put her through that again. He agreed and we got sedation started. Initially we were told it would take about 2 minutes with the mask and then she'd be calmer and in a 'dream-like' state, but she ended up fighting her way through that as well :( It calmed her enough to be successful with the tube insertion, but she cried and fought the entire time.
Now that the tube was in, they started to insert the fluid into her colon and large intestine. The radiologist told us this was one of the worst cases he'd ever seen for a child of her age :( he put more CC's of the fluid in than normal, about 500 and then it was over...FINALLY! He warned us that when they take the tube out, things usually start coming out right away, but that was not the case in Mackenna. They said with her back up, it was ok it wasn't instant and to get her in a diaper and wait...We did just that and she wanted nothing to do with anyone, but her mama!!! She held her Minnie, dollie, blanket and me tightly and had a pretty upset face the whole time. She was hot, sweaty and had a head full of curls.
To make a long story short, it took close to an hour for Kenna to have her first dirty diaper and it wasn't the size they were hoping for. They wanted her to have one more before they did one more tummy x-ray to make sure things were doing what they were supposed to, so they suggested we grab lunch in the cafe and come back after her second diaper. She did have a second one while we were there, but again, not what they were hoping for. Nate and I were a little nervous at this point, but they assured us it was ok since she was just THAT backed up :( They did the final tummy x-ray and sent us on our way after almost 5 hours! (We thought it would be 2 max from what they told us).
We got in the car and not even a minute had gone by before we saw this...
She was exhausted, frankly, we ALL were! We got her home and were happy to say that by the end of the day she had had 7 dirty diapers! They were bigger each time and more productive, so we were happy to see that! She slowly got back to her normal self as the day went on, so we were thrilled to have our little girl back!
Now she's on Miralax to try and get her system regulated and more importantly her mental fear GONE! Hopefully from there we'll have a normal functioning punkin! We are also happy to report that we just received her results and they found no abnormalities in her colon and intestine...PHEW!!!! We are so happy that is over and are so so thankful that we have an otherwise very healthy little girl!
